• Hello Friends!

If you aren't a friend yet, I hope you will be soon!

I am Kathy... and I drive a minivan. Now that you know my deepest darkest secret, here's the good stuff! I am madly in love with Jesus, my Husband and the three little Dirtbags that call me Mom. Although we officially live in Indiana, I spend the majority of my time traveling across the Midwest, kids in tow, meeting people like you and photographing their love stories. I pride myself in "stress free" photo days. I want to just hang out with you for a few hours. I want to know what you love... who you love... and capture that love in images so you can see what the rest of the world sees. The real you.  ~Kathy

Caroline is in the FIRST GRADE????   How is that possible????

I have had the privilege of photographing Caroline every year of her life.  It is SUCH a treasure to have clients that trust you whole hearty.  It is like a day at Disney World (minus long lines and mickey ears) when I show up at the shoot and the Mom says “she’s all yours… make the magic happen”.  That’s exactly how it goes down at each of Caroline’s shoots in nearly those exact words.  These are all shot in their yard and for the majority of them it was just she and I.  We walked around and talked about soccer, gymnastics, school, how she better not have a boyfriend, and what her favorite TV shows are.  I did impersonations of her YaYa (I know her Grandma) and shook my booty when necessary to get a laugh.  I know my job sounds SUPER hard, huh?  Talk with a 6 year old, act like an idiot, make her laugh, and then get paid.  It’s rough, but someone has to do it.

And for fear of ruining their Christmas card surprise… just a couple of the family… manly dog included 😉

Seven hundred ninety six.

That’s how many days it’s been since I blogged.

That doesn’t even seem possible as I type it.  I spent five years blogging at minimum three times a week.  I slowly built a blog following and from that (and word of mouth) I built my business.  To think that I POURED my heart out here through images and words and then left it dormant for over two years is crazy.  Here is what I can credit this lonnnnggg blogging hiatus to.

1. Facebook.  I’m sad to admit that the ease and speed of Facebook has officially sucked me in.  Post one photo from a wedding and BAM!!  three hundred people just saw it?  Ummmm… yes.  Sign me up please.  No time to blog????  No worries… all my blog readers are on Facebook anyway.

2. Growing Dirtbags.  The past two years have been filled with running kids to and from school, practice, programs, birthday parties… doing homework, learning to use the potty, cleaning up messes, and MAYBE teaching them a thing or two here and there.

3. Running a business.  Whoa… Do I struggle with this one.  Show up on time, take your photos, pour my heart and soul in to capturing every single drop of love I witness that day?  That’s what I’m good at.  Book Keeping, webpages, and paperwork????  Not my strong points.  The late night hours sitting in front of the computer after the Dirtbags go to bed leave me with an “empty tank” when the thought of blogging tries to sneak in my head.

4. Service.  As in serving others out of love.  Loving others as Christ loves me.  Planting seeds that make my heart FULL and doing things that REALLY MATTER.  I have always known what was truly important… but seeking out to LIVE what is truly important is now my number one priority.

4. OVER COMMITMENT.  (please refer to numbers 2-4)

It breaks my heart to think I don’t have a written record of the past two years like I do from the five before.  With all that being said…

Maybe not everyday, maybe not even every other day… but with balance and perspective…. I’m back.

  • Amber - I’m so glad…I’ve missed blog stalking you. Lol I’m one of the few who doesn’t have facebook soooo I’m glad you’re back around!!!!

G-funk turned 3 in July. You might be thinking to yourself… why did she wait until now to blog about it? Well, if that makes me a bad mother, I won’t even tell you when I actually shot these images. Let’s just say…. he was younger than 3yrs 2mo.  I have to start out Grady’s birthday post (just like always) with an updated rocking chair shot.  This rocking chair was Otey’s grandparents’ and once I shot G’s newborn photo in it that I totally loved, I knew it was going to become a yearly tradition.  The first three were shot in exactly the same place at our house in Iowa.  Since that house is no longer ours… this year we had to start a new location tradition.

Grady is soooo full of personality.  He can be such a lover and two seconds later be the child who is causing me to prematurely gray.  I can only imagine what his teenage years have in store for us.  One thing is FOR SURE…. lots of laughter.

Here’s to you Super Grady!  Happy late Birthday from the one who makes you eat your vegetables.  Glad you’re mine.

  • amy stamm - love them!!!!

  • amy stamm - LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!! so sweet

  • Sharon T. - Wow Kathy! Amazing as always. Any change you will be coming through Iowa anytime soon? Would love to get another set of family photos taken! Sharon

The morning after Kendra’s shoot on Facebook…

HER MOM: “I just want you to know that I have 27 chigger bites! Yes, I counted! Kendra has like 5 and a small patch of poison. I sure hope the pics in the weeds turn out! LOL”.

ME: “I came straight home, got naked in my garage and went straight to the shower to scrub my legs. I even had my Mom (who doesn’t get poison) wipe my shoes down with alcohol just in case there was oil on them! And you know what?!?!? I STILL have some poison bumps! Oh, and I watched them as they uploaded… they are totally going to be soooo worth it”.

I knew I could risk being cocky when my subject looks like Kendra!  I would like to put this disclaimer out there… I did warn Kendra before I sat her down in the three foot weeds that chigger bites were a possibility.  So glad she’s a girl who has her priorities straight. 🙂
